Meet Our Physicians

Minnesota Vascular Surgery Center's physicians are board certified and fellowship trained vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists.

Maria R. Gomes, M.D. received her medical degree from the Oporto University Medical School in Portugal. She completed her residency and a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Minnesota Hospital & Clinics. Dr. Gomes is board certified in Radiology and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. Her clinical interests include MR angiography, CT angiography, venous insufficiency, uterine artery embolization, vertebroplasty, spinal injections, and endovascular repair of aortic aneurysm.

Jeffrey L. Groffsky, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine where he also completed his residency. He completed a fellowship in Angiography and Interventional Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Groffsky is board certified in Radiology and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. His clinical interests include arterial and venous interventions, dialysis interventions, aortic stent grafts for aneurysm, carotid stents, vertebroplasty, spinal injections, uterine artery embolization for fibroids, and cancer interventions.

Chantel N. Hile , M.D. received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Hile completed her residency and served as Chief Resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Here she also completed a clinical research fellowship and fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery. Dr. Hile is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Her clinical interests include surgical and endovascular treatment of lower extremity vascular disease, thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, carotid artery stenoses, renal artery stenoses, mesenteric ischemia and varicose veins.

Eric D. Irwin , M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed his residency and surgical fellowship at the University of Minnesota Hospital & Clinics and went on to complete a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Utah. Before serving as associate medical director of trauma services at North Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Irwin was a surgeon at the Department of Veterans Administration and Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Dr. Irwin is board certified in General Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Brian T. Larkin, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He completed his residency and a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Dr. Larkin is board certified in Radiology and has Certificates of Added Qualifications in Neuroradiology and Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. His clinical interests include neuroradiology, interventional radiology, spinal injections and vertebroplasty.

Christopher Leville, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He completed residency in General Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Leville is board certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. His clinical interests include thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm stenting and repair; peripheral vascular angioplasty, stenting and bypass; carotid artery stenting and repair; creation and maintenance of dialysis access; treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome; thrombolysis, angioplasty, stenting, radiofrequency ablation, and surgery for venous disease; mesenteric and renal stenting and bypass surgery.


Troy D. Long, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma where he graduated Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Omega Alpha and went on to complete his residency in Diagnostic Radiology. He then completed a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute. Dr. Long is board certified in Radiology. His clinical interests include management and treatment of peripheral vascular disease and venous insufficiency.

William D. McMillan, M.D. received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He completed his residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. McMillan is board certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. His clinical interests include carotid endarterectomy and stenting, aortic surgery and stenting, and lower extremity bypass surgery.

Melissa J. Neisen , M.D. received her undergraduate degree from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and her medical degree from Mayo Medical School in Rochester. She completed her diagnostic radiology residency and interventional radiology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Dr. Neisen is board certified in diagnostic radiology. Her clinical interests include peripheral vascular disease, cancer interventions, venous insufficiency, biliary disease, and maintenance of dialysis access.

Scott R. Schultz, M.D. received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He completed his residency and a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. Dr. Schultz is board certified in Radiology and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. His clinical interests include aortic stent grafts, carotid stents, cancer interventions, vertebroplasty, spinal injections and uterine artery embolization.
